WHY NOT TO CHAIN YOUR DOG
1. Chaining is not only inhumane for dogs, but has taken a severe toll on this nation’s children.

In the period from October 2003 until October 2004, there have been at least 20 children killed or seriously injured by chained
dogs across the country.
3. Chained dogs, unsocialized with humans, can become very territorial of their tiny
space, and any two year old who wanders into this space can be attacked and killed before adults can intervene.

Researchers are confirming the link between animal abuse and neglect WITH the abuse and neglect of children and perpetration
of future crimes.
5. The Humane Society of the United States has found chained or penned dogs are two-and-a-half
times more likely to attack than dogs living indoors.
6. Another study from the National Animal Control News
found chained dogs who live like this more than eight hours a day are three times more likely to bite their caretakers than
if they hadnšt been tied down.
7. Animal control officers have reported dogs with infected necks whose chains
have literally rubbed through their necks, sometimes becoming embedded in the skin.
8. Dogs have also hung
themselves by getting tangled up in their chains and by jumping over a fence.
